Still Elementary School recently had a speaker as part of their studies of the Holocaust. The students first watched a play, depicting the speakers life, and then had the opportunity to ask questions. Please listen and watch (yes, it's my first enhanced podcast) at:

We visit with Ms. Bower again! In this podcast, rather than recording Ms. Bower reading, we listen as the students discuss the book with her. They also catch us up on what we've missed since our last visit. Please listen in!
Ms. Bower's class began a book called "The Kid Who Ran for President." She and the students read the prologue and chapter 1 of the book today. They stopped at several points and discussed the book. Please listen to the podcast and feel free to comment. We'll visit her class again soon for more discussion of this book.
I visit with Ms. Jenkins class at Dowell Elementary for a bit of reader's theater featuring Johnny Appleseed. Please enjoy the voices of the children!

The Dowell PTA sponsored a special event called Curl Up and Read! Students wore comfortable clothing to school and brought a blanket or towel to school that day, along with a good book. Special times were set aside during the school day to read their book. "Ghost" readers read short selections over the PA, much to the delight of the children. At 5 PM, the PTA joined in by inviting students and parents to bring their blankets and pillows and to read in grade level areas. Later, a storyteller read several books in the media center while half the students had a snack in the cafeteria. After a while, the groups changed places. When all the reading was done, there was a brief PTA meeting. Our first project will be an exchange of podcasts. I feel it's important to get to know each other a bit. The school for this project is Dowell Elementary School. Dowell has about 984 students that mostly come from less than 5 miles away. The school opened in 1989 and has been added onto one time. We have a video that you can view by clicking here. We also have a podcast with original faculty members sharing some memories and telling us how Dowell and the community have changed since the opening of the school. Please download it below.
